Daniel Tinayre will have his Tribute at the Festival
30 years after his death, the career of the director, screenwriter and producer Daniel Tinayre will be recognized in the second edition of the FIC.UBA. Furthermore, as part of the tribute to one of the key filmmakers to understand the industrial period of Argentine cinema, his last and most remembered film will be screened: La Mary (1974), in a remastered version. This film will have a special screening on Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m., in Sala 1 of the Gaumont Cinema, with free admission. Before the screening, and for the first time on the big screen, Tinayre's historic interview with director and screenwriter Oscar Barney Finn can be seen, where Tinayre talks about his life, his work and his work ethic behind the camera.
Daniel Andrés Manoli Tinayre was born on September 14, 1910 in Vertheuil, a small town in southwestern France, and died in Buenos Aires on October 23, 1994. At a very young age, Tinayre settled in Argentina and began to be interested in various artistic forms, especially in cinema.
With great technical capacity, a unique sensitivity for his time and a versatility to explore different genres from comedy to grotesque, thriller and melodrama, his films stood out in what would later be known as the golden period of Argentine cinema. Together with Mirtha Legrand, in front of and behind the cameras, they formed one of the iconic couples in our country's cinematography: works such as La Patota (1960) are a reflection of the remarkable synergy between actress and director. The greatest success of his career would come at the end of it with La Mary, with Susana Giménez and Carlos Monzón as the leading couple. With strong influences from the great European masters, the work of Daniel Tinayre, which spanned five decades and is made up of 23 feature films, is part of the canon of the great history of Argentine cinema.
During the second edition of FIC.UBA, his feature films La patota and Bajo un mismo rostro will also be screened.
