Tribute to Argentina Sono Film
FIC.UBA will pay tribute to Argentina Sono Film, a core studio and production enterprise in the history of Argentine cinema that continues to work tirelessly to preserve and share its film catalogue, ninety-one years after its founding.
As part of this tribute, Rosaura at 10 O’Clock, a film directed by Mario Soffici in 1958 and based on the novel by Marco Denevi, will be screened in Argentina for the first time. This film was recently restored by Argentina Sono Film and presented in the prestigious Cannes Classics section of the last Cannes Film Festival. In addition, there will be an exhibition at the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism with historical posters of the studio’s classics.
The screening on Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m., in Sala 1 of Cine Gaumont, will be presented by Carlos Morelli, film critic, programmer and host of the classic television series Función privada. There will also be an exhibition at the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism with historical posters of the production company's classics.
Argentina Sono Film is the only surviving production company from the golden age of Argentine cinema. Founded in 1933, Sono - its historical nickname - quickly became a benchmark for quality and production standards rarely seen before in the country. The company was not only responsible for the advent of sound films in Argentina with Tango! (1933) but also boasted a roster of national cinema stars such as Niní Marshall, Mirtha Legrand and Zully Moreno, along with renowned directors like Mario Soffici, Daniel Tinayre and Leopoldo Torre Nilsson, among others. Currently, under the leadership of Luis Scalella, Argentina Sono Film continues its mission to preserve and share its extraordinary film collection with the public.
