Marjane Satrapi gave a masterclass at the Film Seminar

«The most important thing is to glorify everyone's individuality»

Marjane Satrapi is one of the guests of honor at the second edition of the FIC.UBA. While a complete retrospective of her filmography is being screened at the different Festival venues, the French-Iranian director, screenwriter, painter and cartoonist participated online in the Seminar.
«The most important thing is to glorify everyone's individuality»

During the meeting, the filmmaker reviewed her life, her influences, motivations and her fight for human rights. Before an Aula Magna full of students and fans of his work, Satrapi addressed a crucial topic in his career such as multiculturalism: "For me it is an opportunity. And it is not erasing anyone's identity, on the contrary. The most important thing is glorify everyone's individuality, every language, every way of thinking and speaking. Have the tolerance to make space for the other", and added: "For a long time, when I was a teenager, it was difficult for me. And I asked myself, why. Why do I have to choose between one and the other? When I can have two, three, five people inside me, why do I have to be one?, and still I am one only person but I take a little of everything I like".

Satrapi's retrospective includes his entire filmography: in addition to Persepolis, Poulet aux prunes (2011) will be screened, co-directed with Vincent Paronnaud about the love story of a Tehran violinist; La bande des Jotas (2012), a mix between black comedy and road movie; The Voices (2014), his arrival in the American mainstream with a fantasy genre film; Radioactive (2019), about the life and work of Nobel Prize winner Marie Sklodowska-Curie; and Paradis Paris (2024), his new film -premiere in Argentina- that tells the life of a former opera star. Approaching her cinematographic work confirms the versatility and curiosity of a unique artist.
