The film explores how a romantic relationship can last if both partners allow each other to become who they truly want to be, supporting and encouraging one another to make their most intimate dreams come true.” This precise (or precious) definition comes from Alejandro Agresti himself. In his return to cinema, the Argentine director captures the recurring encounters between a man and a woman.. They fall in love, share confessions, grow together, and lament everything that might have happened in an ideal world. Yet, they both choose to keep their relationship within the walls of the café where they meet every Friday. What We Wanted to Be subtly reimagines and challenges the conventions of a typical romantic film.
